• The Choreographer

She walked quickly, knowing she would be late. This was her first rehearsal and she, the choreographer, was giving off the wrong impression.  Not only was she late but she had not been given the music for the dance yet. Emailing the executive committee the week before had given her a vague non-answer and only made this first rehearsal more daunting then it needed to be. That morning she read ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ examining the first couple of pages for some kind of reference she could use for her dance.  Nothing. All she knew was there were four characters: two women and two men. Her husband, her brother and his…

  • The Killer Elite – Wright

When I sat down to read The Killer Elite I was excited. I am really interested in the war in Afghanistan and Iraq and this piece showed perfectly how the soldiers react under extreme circumstances. These are barely men, many of whom are barely educated, trying to fight a war they don’t seem to fully understand. In class, the discussion made these soldiers seem brutish and almost evil, it seemed people did not fully grasp the circumstances these soldiers are forced into.  Not only did Wright show their remorse about the children multiple times, he allowed for the soldiers to speak for themselves. I loved the way Wright shows his…

  • Single Review – Hello Lazarus

I write for the webzine Amped Reviews, just started, after a brief stint at Down The Road webzine, which apparently does not give credit anymore. This is my first single review for Hello Lazarus’ single Ladies Love Liars. This is a far cry from my best work and showed me that I need to get better at reviews. I will slowly be posting my older reviews and interview from Down The Road but for now enjoy. • Mailer, Thompson and Wolfe

I have a Non-Fiction class where we read selections from novels and short stories. This week we read exerpts from Norman Mailers “The Armies of the Night“, Hunter S. Thompsons “The Scum Also Rises”, and Tom Wolfes “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.” Here is my journal: This week I was exposed to writers I had heard about but never read. I have found myself becoming more and more inspired by the words. I sat down to read Norman Mailer’s The Armies of the Night and found myself writing instead. These stories seem to take longer and longer to get through because of the inspiration I get when I read them.…

  • Treaty Day

On Friday it was Treaty Day in Halifax, so I trekked down to Grand Parade with my camera and got some cool photos. It is the 24th anniversary of Treaty Day, and the portion I saw was the flag raising. I also met Mayor Peter Kelly which was cool. The first few photos are his encounter with some teenage girls. I loved their reactions so I thought I would post them.
