• Art and Graffiti – Portland’s Art District

The art and graffiti in Portland’s Art District is outstanding. There are large pieces scaling the length of a building, to overlapping graffiti, to paintings hanging outside stores. Some of the art uses paint, but others use objects to add texture to the pieces. The mermaid piece has old CD’s that make up her sparkling tail. One student even used an alley for their thesis, trying to make every inch of Portland beautiful. They allow people to interact with the pieces in the alley, and decide what they would like to see in their city. The art district is stunning, and walking the ten blocks was one of my favourite…

  • Battle of the Brush S5E1

I have been working Battle of the Brush on and off for two years now. This incredible event, created by Golden Brush Art and held at Heritage Hall, featured five teams of artists creating a work of art in 80 minutes. The theme for the first episode of season 5 was Beats on Canvas, and the works were diverse and beautiful. Here are some photos from the first half of the event:

  • Battle of the Brush Grand Finale Part Two!

I am thrilled to be working with the team at Golden Brush Art. Every year they hold a live art painting competition called Battle of the Brush and their Grand Finale did not disappoint. The theme was Fairy Tales, and while all stayed within the realm of Disney movies, the paintings were distinct and beautiful.

  • Battle of the Brush ’14

Battle of the Brush is a live painting competition that brings together two artists to create a work of art in eighty minutes. I attended almost all of them last year but this was the first for this year. The theme was Cartoons and Anime and each painting was unique. Some went for beloved Disney characters while other artists created a scene and a story in their painting. Here are the first half of the photos from the event, the other half will be posted tomorrow, Enjoy!
